Commonly mixed up with a furnace, an air handler can operate with both heating and cooling equipment. The most common type of air handler is known as a terminal unit, which consist of an air filter, a blower, and a coil. The indoor coil is used to keep the air at the desired temperature, while the air filter is used to remove airborne contaminants. For more information about air handlers, contact Commercial Service today.

A heat pump is a refrigeration system that can be reversed to either heat or cool an area. Installation for this type of system typically consists of two parts: an indoor unit called an air handler and an outdoor unit called a heat pump. A compressor circulates refrigerant that absorbs and releases heat as it travels between the indoor and outdoor units.

Geothermal systems exist below the earth's service, and are able to function because at that depth, temperatures don't really fluctuate. During the summer months, geothermal systems absorb warmth from your home and transfers it to the underground loop where it is then absorbed by the cooler earth. During the winter months, warmer temperatures from below the surface are harnessed and brought up to heat your home. If you have more questions about geothermal energy, call Commercial Service today.

The split/ductless system is technically called a “packages terminal air conditioner” (PTAC). The split system breaks the air conditioning system into two terminals, with one being inside while the other is outside. A conduit that houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, suction tubing, and a condensate drain, links the terminals. These systems are fairly small, and simple to install. Many models nowadays are also able to have up to four rooms connected to one unit. The advantage of this is that each room’s system will have its own thermostat, so you may manually control individual rooms’ temperatures.
